YouROK’s app K’Bro Selected as Finalist for 2019 APA Innovation Lab

05/08/2019 10:00 - United States - (PR Distribution™)

YouROK Corp. has been selected as one of seven finalists chosen from submissions from five countries to be featured in the 5th Psychiatry Innovation Lab, the American Psychiatric Association’s mental health startup incubator.   On May 19th, YouROK will present its platform intended to disrupt the adolescent mental health industry by focusing on prevention to reduce the onset of mental health issues in adulthood.

“50% of Americans will struggle with mental health over their lifetime but millions are not getting properly diagnosed or treated. The Psychiatry Innovation Lab was created to identify the most promising early-stage ideas for transforming mental health care and invest in them with mentorship, education, funding, and collaboration opportunities, so that we can get better solutions into the hands of the patients and doctors,” explained Nina Vasan, MD, MBA, Chair of the APA Committee on Innovation, Founder of the Psychiatry Innovation Lab, and Director of Brainstorm, the Stanford Lab for Brain Health Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Stanford University School of Medicine. “YouROK was selected because of its innovative approach to reaching kids and helping them identify and share their emotions at an early stage. Building emotional resilience is a foundation of disease prevention and YouROK has built a creative, engaging, and scalable game to bring these skills to kids.”

By building emotional resilience through evidence-based, self-care skills YouROK not only helps maintain emotional wellness but more importantly detects the onset of mental health issues to proactively offer targeted intervention exactly at the moment it is most needed.   YouROK’s market entry product is an app, K’Bro, that is part game/part anonymous sharing/part knowledge base using deep learning to assess kids’ emotional well-being and to keep kids, parents and professionals tuned to the child’s emotional health.   Longer term the platform is intended to support parents, therapists and other relevant professionals to deliver virtual therapy through intelligent virtual agents, texting, and video conferencing.

The Mental Health Innovation Zone is the APA's showcase and catalyst for the advancement of mental health technologies, dedicated to answering the question "What's next in mental health technology?"  YouROK will showcase its idea in front of a panel of expert judges, including Dr. David Feinberg, VP of Health for Google, and Dennis Boyle, Head of Health for IDEO. This event brings together leaders in psychiatry with experts in business, technology, medicine, and government, who work with the finalist teams during the day to help them incorporate judge’s and audience feedback, after which finalists will present final pitches. Multiple awards will be presented, including a $10,000 grand prize award sponsored by Otsuka America Pharmaceutical Inc., an Audience Choice Award, and an Impact Award.
We look forward to describing how YouROK will change the game when it comes to adolescent emotional well-being, and have our fingers crossed for an award. For details, go to the  Mental Health Innovation Zone, and follow updates at #APAAM19 and #MHIZ.
