Xact™ utilizes a special suturing technique to address the loose, sagging skin that often characterizes some of the first prominent signs of age in the face and neck. During the Xact™ procedure, small incisions are created within the hairline. Dr. Godek then uses the Xact™ suturing device to “lift” the skin and reposition the tissues, ultimately producing a smoother look and diminishing the appearance of jowls. For patients who would like to address inelastic skin in the upper neck, the Xact™ procedure utilizes a similar technique; however, the incisions are made behind the ear in those cases. Since the incisions created for Xact™ treatment are in relatively inconspicuous places, the residual scarring should be virtually unnoticeable to others. Dr. Godek says the entire procedure can often be performed as an in-office treatment under sedation rather than general anesthesia and completed in less than 30 minutes.
In terms of the results, Dr. Godek notes that many patients have experienced outcomes that have lasted for more than two and-a-half years so far, and may even continue for much longer periods. He says the less invasive nature of the treatment when compared to full facelift surgery typically results in a minimal recovery process—many individuals are able to return to normal routines within five days following treatment.
Dr. Godek notes that the Xact™ procedure is generally more beneficial for patients who have mild to moderate signs of sagging skin in the mid- to lower face and/or the neck; for individuals with more severe concerns, a full facelift surgery may be the better option. He says the most ideal treatment for patients can be determined once he has examined the individual’s unique skin properties and levels of severity during the initial consultation.
