Vibrant new community offers seniors a meaningful life with caring neighbors

09/11/2018 08:00 - KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE - (PR Distribution™)

Living in the Third Act of Life? An exciting way of living with caring neighbors has arrived in Knoxville.

The Common Ground Community invites you to join their 'Aging Better, Together' informational event in Knoxville, Tennessee, on September 14 to learn about this exciting new Senior Cohousing neighborhood -  the first of its kind in the state.

The Common Ground project is geared toward finding the right home for 55+ adults who seek an ideal balance between privacy and a fulfilling, meaningful social life.

Over 22 acres of beautiful land in northeast Knoxville will accommodate between 30 and 32 new homes with a capacity of 50 residents, in addition to a 3000 sqft Common House, extensive pathways, community garden, and walking trails with gorgeous views of the Great Smokies.

To accommodate the cohousing needs of 'frisky seniors' over 55, the homes will be 1 and 2 bedrooms between 800 and 1300 square feet, with 1.5 to 2 baths. An option of adding a 3rd bedroom can also be selected upon purchase.

The cost of each unit will be under $250,000 - 1/30th ownership of the public spaces and common buildings is included in the package.

The Common Ground Community kindly asks those who might be interested to secure a spot by contributing to the project with a $1,000 fully refundable reservation. This will reserve the right to choose a lot and to become a participating future neighbor, collaborating on residential design and community policies.

To find out more, please attend Common Ground's informational event at 825 Locust Street, Suite 103, Knoxville, on Friday, September 14. Doors open at 4:00 pm.

About the Common Ground Community

The community was launched in January 2017 by Susan Fuhr, PhD. The project attracted interest from many potential neighbors before the director stepped down to attend to her private practice. As of January 2018, the project has resumed thanks to a private benefactor and is once again headed by Dr. Fuhr, the original project founder.

Common Ground aims to cultivate an intentional community of sharing and caring in a neighborhood of private homes designed around shared spaces to support vibrant, healthy aging.
