The Honorable David R. Herndon, Retired District Judge in the District Court for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, was just recently inducted into the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) Hall of Fame, for his outstanding leadership, dedication and commitment to the legal profession.
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only 10 honored IAOTP members are inducted into the exclusive IAOTP’s Hall of Fame. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations, contributions to their communities and have given visionary leadership to their industry. Judge Herndon was just recently honored at IAOTP’s 2018 Annual Awards Gala held at the Plaza Hotel, where he was selected as Judge of the Decade for 2019. For 2018 he was an honored guest at IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala at the Ritz Carlton in NYC, for his selection as Top Judge of the Year for 2018.
Judge Herndon is being recognized for this award for having over three decades of professional experience in the legal field. As a dynamic, results driven leader he has demonstrated success not only as District Judge but in every role he has ever served. The Honorable Herndon was confirmed by the Senate on October 21, 1998, pursuant to his nomination by President William J. Clinton. His federal tenure followed seven years as an Associate Judge in the Third Judicial Circuit, Madison County, Illinois. Prior to that, The Honorable Judge Herndon worked as a trial attorney, specializing in plaintiff’s personal injury cases, with an emphasis on FELA litigation, for fourteen years. Judge Herndon served as Chief Judge from October of 2007 through September of 2014 and currently serves as Chair of the Judicial Conference Committee on Judicial Security.
A native of Sedalia, Missouri, Judge Herndon received his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and then earned his law degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Throughout his illustrious career Judge Herndon has received numerous awards, accolades and has been recognized worldwide for his outstanding accomplishments. Aside from receiving Judge of the Decade and Top Judge of the Year, he also just recently graced the front cover of TIP (Top Industry Professional) Magazine and received the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2018 by the International Association of Top Professionals. He has been inducted into the National Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame and remains active with many other associations and affiliations.
The Honorable Judge Herndon attributes his success to his perseverance, mentors he has had along the way and staying passionate with the law. He says he has been blessed he loves doing what he is doing and says this feels like its only the beginning. When not working, the Honorable Judge Herndon enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.
