The Academy of Forensic Nursing (AFN) commends Congress for passing H.R. 2471, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022, which funds the federal government for the remainder of Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 and provides for reauthorization of the Violence Against Women’s Act which includes the Ensuring Forensic Health Care for All Act provision to support generalist forensic training.
“The Academy of Forensic Nursing acknowledges the importance of quality forensic evidence collection to further successful prosecution of perpetrators and justice for victims to provide all patients who have experienced violence/trauma access to trauma-informed care and forensic services. The AFN is excited to be a leader in the administration, development and implementation of health care professional education dedicated to improving the response to child abuse, sexual abuse and assault, domestic violence, elder abuse, strangulation, battery and other violent crimes." - Dr. Jennifer Johnson, President, Academy of Forensic Nursing
AFN looks forward to the opportunity to work with Health Resource Services Administration (HRSA) on the administration of EFCA.
AFN members continue to lead the way in meeting the nation’s needs for evidence-based education for health care providers seeking to care for victims of interpersonal violence. Federal investment in victim response, health care education and victim services is appreciated.
The Academy would like to thank Congressional leadership, the full Senate, and House Appropriations Committees. Additionally, the Academy appreciates the invaluable work and leadership of Senator Murkowski and her staff as they continue to be steadfast champions in serving the needs of all individuals who have been impacted by trauma and abuse.
