Scabbard Technology, LLC produces the leading gun containment system on the hunting market, The SafeTraveler® scabbard is the patented locking mechanism perfectly combining safety, security and convenience. The Safety Scabbard® component system was engineered by Scabbard to securely fasten guns to vehicles and provide assurance of safe transportation during the most rigorous rides. The company manufactures custom mounts for many types of vehicles including UTVs, ATVs , golf carts and custom hunt buggies.
Market demand steered the company toward a manufacturing overhaul resulting in increased manufacturing capacity. The manufacturing facility acquired an adjacent property and increased production area by 18,000 square feet, allowing for the addition of a dedicated coil line to straighten, coat, and cut raw materials. Loading docks, administrative offices, warehouse space for storage and a distribution area for raw materials were added, allowing higher production runs to fill large orders and storage of increased raw materials on hand for more efficient manufacturing. Production capability has increased tremendously to handle thousands of units per month.
Scabbard has also upgraded materials for The SafeTraveler® models as well as the liners. The newly sourced pre-laminated nylon fabric on high quality foam has an additional tricot backing, eliminating an in-house gluing process with a two-day curing period. In addition, the tricot backing allows for enhancements to sew operations that produce a sleek, finished look.
The method of securing the SafeTraveler® scabbard directly to existing surfaces using the Safety Scabbard® mounting components has also been upgraded. The female PEM nut has been replaced with a padded, wide head male fastener that will protrude though the back of the SafeTraveler® Scabbard. All Safety Scabbard® mounting hardware will continue to work with the upgrade. The knobs will now be female instead of male thread. The brackets are designed to give a bit if ever an uh-oh event occurs, protecting the user’s gun by keeping the gun and scabbard securely in place.
At the heart of the manufacturing overhaul is the proprietary tooling developed by owner C. R. McCrary. After years of customer feedback, research and design, the tooling provides repeatability to within .004 of an inch in the core of the SafeTraveler® Scabbard, ensuring a perfect fit for the liner. “This overhaul will allow us to spend more time on custom brackets and other custom applications for our customers,” states McCrary. “We are pleased to upgrade the quality of materials for our customers as well as manufacturing capacity to allow for continued quick turnaround on orders. We have held customer cost at the existing level for many years and endeavor to continue to keep cost low through continued improvement and innovation. Production of the new style of SafeTraveler® Scabbards began on May 1, 2019.
