The Antique Jewelry & Art Conference (Jewelry Camp), the leading resource for antique and estate jewelry learning, brings together jewelry professionals and collectors for in-depth learning and networking opportunities from July 26 - 27, 2019 at the Newark Museum in Newark, NJ.
Jewelry Camp is more than a conference, more than a learning experience – it’s where the jewelry community converges to discover, share, and grow together. The antique, estate, and vintage jewelry world is about more than commerce and shiny objects – it’s also about the community behind it – online and offline. Jewelry Camp is now reimagined to stay current with the times, but more importantly, to be useful to its community.
This year, the conference will include diverse talks from many facets of the industry – academia, auctions, design, trade, collecting, and online commerce. Jewelry lends itself to being handled, examined, and discussed. Attendees are encouraged to bring along pieces for a show-and-tell during lunch.
Jewelry Camp opens with a reception on Friday, July 26 at Phillips auction house in New York. Saturday, July 27 offers talks led by museum curators, art historians, and other industry experts, including:

About Edward Lewand, GG, ASA, AAA
A professional, independent appraiser of fine and antique jewelry, Edward Lewand works with attorneys on estates, trusts, insurance matters, and copyright issues as well as appraisal theories and concepts. The IRS calls on him as an outside expert and he consults with numerous galleries and dealers on antique jewelry. Mr. Lewand earned a Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America, is a Certified Member of the Appraisers Association of America and an Accredited Senior Appraiser in Gems and Jewelry from the American Society of Appraisers.
About Ulysses Grant Dietz
Ulysses Grant Dietz is the co-director of Jewelry Camp and Chief Curator Emeritus at the Newark Museum. He previously served as the museum's curator of decorative arts since 1980 and the chief curator since 2012. Mr. Dietz has been the curator of more than 100 exhibitions covering all aspects of the decorative arts from colonial to contemporary. He has published numerous articles on decorative arts, drawing on the Newark Museum’s nationally-known collections of art pottery, studio ceramics, silver, jewelry and nineteenth-century furniture. His most recent publication is “Jewelry from Pearls to Platinum to Plastic,” published in January 2017 by the Newark Museum through the University Press of Florida.
