Basket Brigade is a charity based in suburban Chicago whose mission is to provide baskets of Thanksgiving dinners to struggling families in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Property Up, a Chicagoland real estate agency, has teamed up with Basket Brigade in 2019 to coordinated efforts to bring more attention to the charity so that more families can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal this year.
Basket Brigade provides meals to families in Streamwood, Hanover Park, Bartlett, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Elk Grove, Elgin, and South Elgin. They are driven by their desire to let those families know that the community cares about them, and to bring them a sense of hope.
The Basket Brigade of Suburban Chicago was founded by Brian and Cherish Walsh, and they were inspired by none other than Tony Robbins. Growing up in a poor family, Robbins experienced the generosity of a stranger as a child. This stranger knocked on their door with a Thanksgiving basket, and this gesture made a significant impact on Robbins’ life. This simple gesture turned into the Basket Brigade movement that delivers Thanksgiving dinners to more than two million people around the world every year.
Currently, in its fifth year of operation, the Basket Brigade of Suburban Chicago is driven by the guiding philosophy that the secret to living is giving. This year, they plan on delivering Thanksgiving baskets to 2000 families-in-need, with each basket feeding approximately 5 people. So, their effort this year is expected to feed around 10,000 people in the Northwest Chicago suburbs.
Each basket will include a turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy,
rolls, corn, marshmallows, cranberries, vegetables, mac and cheese, and a pumpkin pie for dessert. To add a personal touch and warmth, each box includes handwritten notes from the children of the Basket Brigade volunteers.
In an effort to bring more awareness so that more in-need families can enjoy Thanksgiving meals, this year Basket Brigade teamed up with Property Up, a local real estate agency serving the Chicagoland area.
Property Up leveraged their media relationships to create press releases and journalist outreach campaigns to spread the word about the great work that Basket Brigade is doing. Their efforts resulted in Basket Brigade being covered by some prominent TV stations like NBC News, and radio stations like iHeartRadio and WBBM-AM Radio.
