at Mammoth Film Festival on March 1st 2020.
"An impressively polished debut admirably ambitious and elegantly crafted" - The Hollywood Reporter
A powerful and lyrical action drama set in post-war Tokyo, IN FULL BLOOM follows undefeated Japanese boxing champion Masahiro (Yusuke Ogasawara) as he trains in the winter wilderness for his upcoming bout against the American challenger Clint Sullivan (Tyler Wood). Haunted by memories of his time in the war and nervous about the upcoming arrival of his unborn son, Sullivan must also overcome the Yakuza's influence to keep his honor intact.
The debut feature written and directed by Adam VillaSen?or and Reza Ghassemi, is told in both Japanese and English, and features stunning cinematography and a spellbinding score by Andrew Kawczynski (whose credits include DUNKIRK and WONDER WOMAN). IN FULL BLOOM has a unique style with a subtle Anime influence and is both poetic and prophetic in its tale of human resilience and strength of character.
The international ensemble cast is headed by newcomers Tyler Wood and Yusuke Ogasawara as boxers defending their countries. IN FULL BLOOM explores the themes of political tension and the fighters parallel journeys as they test the very limits of human spirit against the backdrop of corruption and painful memory.
Timothy V. Murphy, Hiroyuki Watanabe, Stefanie Estes, Hazuki Kato and S. Scott McCracken round out the excellent supporting cast.
FROM THE DIRECTORS: “Coming from minority backgrounds in the United States, we saw our fathers struggle to build something for their sons and to make their own path. From an early age, our fathers exposed us to world cinema - from classic American films to foreign films and Japanese Anime. The exposure to these stories drove us to reflect our own physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual struggles through cinema."
