Patel and Potter to run for Vienna Town Council
VCRD Announces its Endorsement of Two Candidates for Vienna Town Council
For the past few months a group of concerned citizens has conducted a thorough search to identify the two strongest candidates to run on a “Smart Growth” platform in the upcoming May 2019 election for Vienna Town Council. The ad hoc search group considered a number of qualified individuals and shared its findings with the Vienna Citizens for Responsible Development (VCRD). As a result of that search VCRD is proud to announce its endorsement of Nisha Patel and Steve Potter for Town Council.
Dr. Nisha Patel
Nisha has lived in Vienna since 2007. She is a member of the Vienna Business Association (VBA) and the Northeast Vienna Citizens Association (NEVCA). Nisha is an ophthalmologist with an office on Church Street. As a resident and local business owner, she has voiced her concerns about keeping Vienna’s small town character through responsible development limits. Nisha and her husband have three children, aged 5, 8, and 11. Reflecting on the opportunity to serve Vienna’ citizens, Nisha states: “I would be humbled and honored to represent the people of this community.”
Steve Potter
Steve, a resident of Vienna since 2004, is a founding member of VCRD. He has been on the forefront of the fight for smart development that is consistent with Vienna’s small town character and compliant with the Statement of the Maple Avenue Corridor (MAC) Purpose and Intent. He was instrumental in organizing citizen opposition that led to the current moratorium of the MAC. Steve has an outstanding business background, having worked at the senior executive level with multi-billion dollar national corporations. He and his wife, Toni, have four children and four grandchildren. Steve looks forward to running a vigorous campaign, and raising awareness of the need for “common sense, transparency, citizen collaboration in town governance, and smart, properly scaled development for the Town of Vienna.”
VCRD
VCRD was formed to make citizens aware of the dangers of over-development, such as the projects approved for 444 Maple Avenue NW, the former Marco Polo site, and the Chic Fil-A/Car Wash complex. VCRD is supporting Dr. Patel and Mr. Potter because they support reasonable limits on Maple Avenue redevelopment and they will take into account well-reasoned citizen input, particularly in the areas of traffic and parking impact. VCRD also supports open government, including full financial disclosure of election contributions, and reasonable opportunities for citizen participation. VCRD is committed to better living conditions for all of Vienna’s citizens.
