Richmond, VA – PartnerMD is excited to announce the hiring of a new physician, Dr. James F. Bampton, in the Richmond office. With a focus on family medicine, Dr. Bampton has treated patients at many different stages of life, from newborns to the elderly. Dr. Bampton got his start in public service working in rural medicine. What he liked most about rural medicine was building personal, trusting, long-term relationships with patients and their families.
After working in rural medicine in Tennessee and New Mexico, Dr. Bampton returned to Virginia and joined a private practice. He worked in private practice for 13 years and over this period realized that traditional primary care was straying further away from his vision of family medicine. Bampton longed for the days when he could truly get to know each and every patient, and ultimately this desire brought him to PartnerMD.
“In a traditional practice, I always was running behind because I made time to talk with my patients. I like people and getting to know them helps me to better serve their medical needs,” Dr. Bampton explains. “I get to understand their lives, and where they’re coming from. I learn their motives and what matters to them in life. And this provides me with important context. I want time to concentrate on each individual and this is exactly what PartnerMD allows me to do. This makes it easier to ‘follow trails’ and find out what’s really going on with a person’s health.”

Dr. Bampton is a 1994 graduate from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his family practice residency at Riverside Family Practice in Newport News, Virginia. Bampton is board certified in family medicine and completed a fellowship specializing in office procedures and colonoscopy.
Currently, Dr. Bampton resides in Midlothian, Virginia, with his wife Anna and their three sons. Outside of the office Dr. Bampton enjoys hiking, camping and movies.
