OTRS Survey: 82 percent work at least as productively at home as in the office | Almost a quarter see a danger of working more overtime at home

2020-07-28 04:00:00 - Cupertino, CA - (PR Distribution™)

Questions about the advantages and disadvantages of the home office and whether the corona crisis will lead to employees working more from home in the future are recurring themes. The worldwide OTRS Group survey[1] has shown a clear result regarding productivity: A total of 39 percent say that they can work just as productively from their home office as from their traditional office. 43 percent even say that they are more productive when working from home. In Brazil, more than half of the respondents (54 percent) say that they can work more productively at home. In the USA and Singapore, 41 percent make this statement.

Risks lie in the loss of face-to-face meetings and the tendency to overtime

According to 23 percent, the greatest risk of working from home is missing personal meetings. 22 percent see a danger in working more overtime from their home office. In Brazil, as many as 57 percent of those surveyed made these statements.

A total of 20 percent consider it a risk not to have a change of location, making the day feel very long. In Mexico, 24 percent of those surveyed said that they see no risk at all in working from home.

Home office interest is in demand after corona / Stable internet connection increases productivity

41 percent of those surveyed would like to continue working from their home office on a permanent basis even after the corona crisis, while 40 percent would prefer a mix of home office and traditional office spaces as their place of work.

When asked what would help them to be even more productive in their home office, 40 percent said the first thing they would like is a more stable internet connection - followed by efficient communication tools, better information storage systems and a corporate culture that is more geared towards working from home.

"It is gratifying to see that the vast majority of people worldwide are as productive or more productive in their home office than in the office," says Sabine Riedel, Member of the Executive Board of OTRS Group. "This means that companies initially do not need to fear a loss of productivity. Nevertheless, it is essential to support and accompany employees who are in the home office long-term. Digital tools for communication and process optimization are important here, and so are opportunities for personal exchange, like regular virtual coffee breaks, to make up for the lack of corridor conversation."
