Norwall PowerSystems Boosts Inventory to Meet Peak Hurricane Season Demand

Hurricane Florence – Other Storms Prompt Residents & Businesses to Find Emergency Power Options

Norwall PowerSystems, a leading online retailer of emergency and portable generators, responded to increasing demand as the Atlantic Hurricane Season reaches its peak in mid-September by increasing their inventory of home and commercial standby generators and portable generators. Early reports of a possible landfall by Hurricane Florence fueled additional sales in the East Coast region. Norwall (www.Norwall.com) boosted inventory to keep up with demand.

Hurricanes and Tropical Storms cause widespread extended power outages that last for days or weeks. After Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, many residents without power waited weeks and some for over a month before utility crews completed repairs and restored power to the region. Without electrical power, residents lose precious supplies of perishable food and endure heat with high humidity, or lack heating in their homes to stay warm. Norwall plans to meet the increased demand by adding more In-Stock Generators to their inventory.

According to a report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA,) 16 weather-related disasters in 2017, including two major hurricanes that made landfall in the United States, left millions without power for days. The catastrophic flooding associated with Hurricane Harvey had residents stranded without power for more than a week. Hurricane Maria destroyed the power grid in Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands.

“We always see an increase in sales around weather disasters that cause a loss of power,” said Travis LaVallie at Norwall. “Generator manufacturers have increased their delivery times. To meet demand, we increased inventory at our existing warehouses and began using another warehouse that previously sat empty.”

In the days just before and after a major storm like Hurricane Florence, local retailers sell out their stock of portable generators as residents scramble to prepare and react to the storm. Norwall can typically deliver in-stock portable generators within a few days of receiving an order. The company advises generator users to follow important portable generator safety rules, which include never operating a generator indoors.

The company also keeps in-stock liquid-cooled standby generators for larger homes and air-cooled standby generators for small to large homes. Backup generators are better suited to power outages because they run automatically and operate on natural gas or propane instead of gasoline—sometimes hard to find just before and after a disaster. They start the moment a power outage occurs and can operate independently for days and weeks without refueling. A home backup generator eliminates concerns of theft and operates in any weather, including hurricanes.

Norwall manages their inventory to allow shipment within a day or two after receiving an order.
