Music Teachers' Association of California Hosts 2019 Annual Convention: "Limitless Imagination"

The 109th annual convention will play host to over 8,000 attendees, world-class artists, music educators, and students to celebrate music performance and composition

The Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) is hosting their 2019 Annual Convention: Limitless Imagination June 28 through July 2 at the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara. The 109th convention, presented by Steinway & Sons, brings together world-class artists, music educators and students to celebrate classical and chamber music through seminars, performances, recitals, presentations and master classes. 

Over the course of four days, guests will be immersed in a world of music pedagogy and unparalleled performances by featured artists and unbelievable student artists. The keynote speaker for the conference is Dr. John Roscigno, Professor of Music and Director of Orchestral Studies at California State University, Northridge and Music Director of the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic. Featured artists include: Opus Two, Ace Trio, Yuko Maruyama Jazz Trio, Justin Levitt, Aria Bella, and Ory Shihor. 

Panel discussions will include a variety of topics such as: Performance Anxiety: How to Enjoy Performing; The Importance of Music Reading and Learning Skills; What Practicing Really Means; and, Publishing and Copyright. The panelists include Ory Shihor, William Wellborn, E.L. Lancaster, William Terwilliger, Andrew Cooperstock, Anna Maria Mendieta, Peter Senchuk, Justin Levitt, and Tom Gerou. 

Additionally, MTAC is proud to announce five public performances in the Steinway Hall (Mission City Ballroom) at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The free performances are as follows:

  • Young Artist Guild Recital: Friday, June 28 | 7:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Piano Concerto Competition: Saturday, June 29 | 7:45-10:45 p.m.
  • Friends of Today’s Music Recital: Sunday, June 30 | 2:30-4:00 p.m.
  • VOCE Recital and Artist Max Mueller: Sunday, June 30 | 7:00-9:45 p.m.
  • Artist & Honor Orchestra Recital (feat. Opus Two and Ace Trio): Monday, July 1 | 8:30-10:30 p.m.

Aside from these sessions and the public performances, MTAC offers coaching, masterclasses, lectures and other resources for music educators and students. The convention is sponsored locally by Raging Waters, San Jose and PulteGroup Inc.
