Mental Health Awareness Month: What Is The Alternative to Killing Yourself?

05/21/2019 10:00 - EXETER - (PR Distribution™)

Suicide rates are on the rise. Queer orientations and racial minorities are persecuted ever-the-more. Feminist activism is mocked and undermined. Addiction is misunderstood and belittled. One in four people will be affected by a mental health condition at some point in their lifetime. Why do these discussions continue to be ridiculed? Why are we discouraged from opening up?

Featuring illustrations by the author, this collection marries the raw and explicit aforementioned topics with the potential for hope and growth. Some pieces are autobiographical. Some are observational. Some are fictional. This collection is designed to allow the reader to emote and to teach them that it is acceptable to do so. It would be futile to brand this work a journey because it is not a narrative: it is life. It is myriad experience rolled into one succinct package that straddles the line between palatable and uncomfortable. In an era which champions mental health awareness and social justice, it is vital to acknowledge that these struggles continue to exist but that there is always a solution. Recovery is possible.
