Denver Active 20 - 30 Children’s Foundation creates Target Shopping Free-for-All for Children Who Cannot Afford to Buy for Loved Ones

Denver, CO — December 14, 2019

Denver Active 20 - 30 Children’s Foundation members chaperoned dozens of children in an early morning shopping spree engineered to get them buying holiday presents for family and friends. The event ensured under-served children could share in the joy of giving, an experience typically out of their reach. The non-profit service organization’s members are local business leaders between the ages of 20 and 39, including Dr. Jeffrey Schmidt of Schmidt Facial Plastic Surgery. The members picked their assigned children up at 5:30 a.m. and ferried them to Target where they could spend a $100 gift card before doors opened to the general public.

With 140 children and 175 members participating, it was the foundation’s most successful Christmas for Kids event yet, raising more than $200,000.

Christmas for Kids aims to help the children learn to focus on the people in their lives, develop a shopping list, and budget to get the most for their $100. Once presents were purchased, the children wrapped them at gift wrap tables. They received a “goodie bag” for themselves before leaving. A visit from Santa, arriving by bright yellow helicopter and bearing gifts for the children, completed the day.

The business leaders supporting the event work for months beforehand to find donors who will match their own contributions. Dr. Schmidt has championed fundraising efforts during his seven years with the organization and has donated a portion of the practice’s proceeds annually to the worthy cause.

“Christmas for Kids is the best event of the year,” said Cam Richards, President, and member of Denver Active 20-30. “The pride and joy that these underserved children experience as they shop for their family members keep us focused on the great need that exists and the purpose of our work.”
