Concert Will Be Presented by Jazz At The Ballroom and SMCEC on September 18, 2020
SAN FRANCISCO, July 27, 2020 – The Chris Norton Band will bring live music back to the Peninsula with a drive-in concert on September 18, 2020 from 8:00PM-9:30PM. The event will pair the popular music of Chris Norton with food and beverage trucks from Off The Grid and SMCEC, all in the safety of a drive-in format. Tickets are available through Eventbrite starting at $100/car. The evening is produced in partnership by the local nonprofit, Jazz At The Ballroom, and the San Mateo County Event Center.
Chris Norton is a versatile singer, trumpeter, and band leader who moves comfortably between jazz standards, pop, R&B hits, rock classics, and soulful ballads. He has headlined at New York Fashion Week, the amfAR Gala, official NFL Super Bowl events, Golden Globe parties, the Cannes Film Festival, the Whitney Gala, and private events for everyone from Barack Obama and Bill Clinton to Jane Fonda. He’s a constant on the New York music scene, playing at the Rainbow Room, Lincoln Center, the MET, Top of the Standard, and the Django.
The San Mateo County Event Center is the location of the time-honored San Mateo County Fair. The 2020 State Fair was cancelled due to the COVID health crisis. The event space and over 700,000 square feet of parking lots remain unused except for a portion that operates as a temporary COVID testing site. Jazz At The Ballroom believes that live music is even more meaningful this year and, like jazz itself, is adapting to the new restrictions. Given the need to continue social distancing, the unused parking lots at SMCEC were a natural choice to present this performance. Off The Grid will even feature their new “order ahead” phone app for attendees in order to work within public health mandates of social distancing.
