Lia Rochas-Pàris is a Paris-based artist & curator. She works in collage, continuing minimalist and biomorphism practices from artists before her. Mitchell Wright hails from the southern scapes of Mississippi and is a New York-based artist and gallerist, the third mast in the troika of the artist run 106 Green in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
Rochas-Pàris and Wright share the process of layering to activate surface, Rochas-Pàris through her implemention of paper and textiles, and Wright through his use of acrylic, paints, and sometimes pumice, among other materials. These layers build dialogues to record multifarious notes in character, emotion, and structure, combining as nuanced gestalt.
Through their respective curatorial work, they join an ever-imaginative and refined population, not afraid to don the hatof the director at times, the practice of jettisoning the artist self in the spotlight. One might interpret this as time well spent outside the prison-like cocoon of the psyche, allowing introspection and a renewed awareness when returning to the individuals’ own art making practice - perhaps more sensitive to subtleties and the meditative conscious to act, and still allow for particles to sway this way or that in the dance to create.
