JSY Giving, a 501(c)(3) granting nonprofit, is honored to announce the four finalists for our Pitch for Good fundraiser on September 29th, 2018. The four finalists, along with being given a grant from JSY Giving, will be pitching their nonprofits for the People’s Choice Award. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will receive an additional grant from JSY Giving. Mayor London Breed will also be in attendance to underscore the importance of the work that nonprofits do in and around San Francisco.

Telling Better Stories Matter

People love a good story and JSY Giving is dedicated to helping nonprofits tell better stories. Stories are what motivate people to get involved with great causes. The art of telling a great story revolves around being in tune with why a nonprofit exists and how potential patrons can help it thrive. This was how our patron, Jane Yin Bolander, helped nonprofits tell stories that mattered.

Meet Our Finalists

The four nonprofits chosen to pitch at Pitch for Good on September 29th are (in alphabetical order):

America SCORES is a time-tested, fast-growing after-school program providing the triple play of poetry, soccer, and service learning programs to Bay Area public schools.  Since 2001, SCORES has been delivering joyful learning opportunities to children, giving students the support, confidence, and vision to meet new challenges and chart their own futures.

Bayview-Hunters Point Center for Arts and Technology (BAYCAT) is a nonprofit social enterprise that educates, empowers and employs young people from historically underserved Bay Area communities in the digital media arts including video production, music production, animation, graphics, and web design. We believe in running a nonprofit like a business, and in changing the philanthropy model. That’s why we created the “clonor” model, where clients become donors, and donors become clients.

Grateful Garment’s mission is to ensure that every victim of a sexual crime who crosses the threshold of a Sexual Assault Response Team facility or who seeks medical attention and/or law enforcement involvement is provided with whatever new clothing, toiletries, snacks, and other miscellaneous items that he or she may require, to reduce further negative impact against their being. We have further expanded our mission and vision to encompass all victims of sexual violence. This includes, but is not limited to commercially sexually exploited children and victims of human sex trafficking.

Justice At Last is the only independent, nonprofit law firm in the San Francisco Bay Area exclusively serving the legal needs of survivors, regardless of their age, gender identity, nationality or type of trafficking. They also provide free legal representation that emphasizes dignity and is survivor-centered, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and rights-based. In addition to legal advocacy and representation, Justice At Last, creates and conducts specialized training to empower and inform survivors about their legal rights within the justice system and also educates service providers about human trafficking and survivor rights.
