Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S. with a five-year survival rate of just 9 percent. In order to save lives and double pancreatic cancer survival, PanCAN urges the Houston community to join PurpleStride. Funds raised through the event support critical research, clinical initiatives and patient services, including Know Your Tumor®, Precision PromiseSM,  Clinical Trial Finder and the Patient Registry.

At last year’s PurpleStride Houston event, Gabe Jones, a 35-year-old lawyer, husband, father, and pancreatic cancer survivor was a featured speaker, inspiring the crowd with his incredible positivity and stoic persistence regarding his fight against pancreatic cancer.

Tragically, Gabe lost his battle a few months later, leaving behind a 5-year-old daughter and wife of 9 years, who was also his high school sweetheart. His four-year battle included a Whipple procedure, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, and other grueling treatments. He was hopeful until the end that he would beat this monstrous disease.

Each year since his diagnosis in 2014, Gabe inspired friends, family and coworkers to participate in PurpleStride. His memory will be very alive at this year’s PurpleStride as his team once again commits to helping to end pancreatic cancer.

By participating in Purplestride. Houstonians can join the cause in honor of Gabe as well as the 55,440 others estimated will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the US in 2019.

PurpleStride Houston will be hosted by Natasha Geigel of Fox 26 News. The event is supported by national presenting sponsor Celgene, national gold sponsors  AbbVie and Ipsen, and silver sponsor MD Anderson.
