Cracked Foundation, the latest young adult fiction novel from author Ta’She’Ana Banks is based on actual events and details the raw truths through a child’s perspective of growing up with a disease-stricken parent. The heart-breaking and candid novel reveals the effects of lupus and its impact on a family. As Banks expresses the youthful innocence page by page, painting pictures of hope for better days and walks through the journey of being forced to grow up fast.
After volunteering at the Lupus Society of Illinois, Banks became inspired after hearing various real-life stories of many individuals diagnosed with numerous forms of lupus. According to the Lupus Foundation of America the staggering statistics state, “Lupus affects approximately 1.5 million Americans, five million people worldwide and of those diagnosed every 2 out of 3 are women of color." Banks will be donating a profit contribution from her book sales to the foundation for continuous research for a cure. She hopes this novel will give people true insight into the difficulties of living with lupus and also inspire others whom face the same or similar challenges to find the courage to fight against all odds.
