West Michigan resident Jake Deutmeyer is the founder of Fluent Find, a company aiming to help people speak fluently by connecting them at local events. The Fluent Find software platform pairs language learners with fluent speakers in their area, promoting language education through direct conversation, and perhaps building friendships in the process.
The business and app are up and running for the West Michigan area. Keeping the focus local initially is enabling a critical mass to form. With users (both fluent speakers and learners) for Spanish, Korean, Mandarin, Italian, and Portuguese already signed up, Fluent Find is well on its way.
Getting Fluent Find off the ground was no small feat, with many barriers to developing the initial minimum viable product (MVP) to launch the concept. After receiving many cost-prohibitive quotes from software development firms, Jake discovered LongerDays, which was able to deliver a solid MVP at a fraction of the cost of other firms.
Another Muskegon-based company, LongerDays provides remote business services to a wide range of clients, and was the right option to help Jake launch Fluent Find 1.0. Working together on website and webapp development, the two organizations developed a mutually beneficial relationship - not unlike the relationships inspired by Fluent Find.
LongerDays developed a webapp that allows registered users to select the language they’re learning (or would like to learn), dates, and input their location to find upcoming local events suitable for a language learning session. Fluent speakers can sign up to be teachers and earn money for helping others gain fluency in their non-native tongue.
The MVP software developed by LongerDays allowed Jake to present his concept to a larger audience, gather feedback, refine the system, and ultimately win $5000 at 5x5 Night (a West Michigan business pitch competition) - a big step forward in the growth of Fluent Find!

Fluent Find is actively pairing language learners and teachers in the West Michigan area, with plans to expand to more markets as the user base grows. LongerDays serves clients around the world from their office in Downtown Muskegon.
