On August 11th, Auctions at Showplace will present the third of four summer auctions featuring choice selections from an important silver collection in addition to other luxury items of the first order. Among many highlights are a John Crawford American coin silver three-piece tea service, a Gorham sterling plaque dedicated to Henry Ford in commemoration of 20 million automobiles sold, a Duchess of Sutherland’s Cripple’s Guild of Handicrafts English silver large paw-footed tray, and serving pieces by Tiffany & Co., Georg Jensen, Paul Storr, and other reputable makers.

Luxury timepieces are strongly represented by a Ulysse Nardin San Marco 18K yellow gold wristwatch, a Rolex oyster perpetual John F. Kennedy stainless steel wristwatch, a Bulgari 18K automatic date wristwatch, an Omega 18K and stainless steel moonphase ladies’ watch, a Movado Switzerland Ermetoscope travel date purse watch, and an International Watch Co. (IWC) Schaffenhausen stainless steel watch. 

Fine art by hotly sought after artists include photorealist paintings by James del Grosso, Stephen Fox, and Robert Gniewek, large scale abstract compositions by Josehp Stabilito and Peter Mackie, a selection of bronze sculpture by Esther Fuhrman, two carved stone “Suitcase” sculptures by Thea Tewi, and a range of 19th and 20th century paintings and works on paper. 

A robust selection of traditional furniture and modern design includes a Finn Juhl modular sofa, two large mid-century modern etageres each with six granite shelves, a Horner manner Aesthetic Movement bamboo vanity, and a pair of Fournier manner Napoleonic rope twist and tassel carved barrel back arm chairs. 

From a private New York collection comes an intriguing group of furniture, lighting and decorative arts produced in conjunction with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, including table lamps, sconces and a pendant light by Yamagiwa, a barrel back chair by Cassina, leaded glass windows by Oakbrook Esser Studios, books of swatches, wallcoverings and textile designs published by Schumacher, and porcelain and glass by Tiffany & Co. Other art glass and porcelain includes two Lalique “Champs-Elysses” large colorless and frosted bowls, Daum crystal “Corvette Stingray” and “Mercedes Benz 300SL” automobile sculptures, two Robert Wynne tabletop sculptures, and a set of Fornasetti “Uccelli Calligrafici” porcelain plates.

Also headed to the auction block is a collection of Hermes and Gucci silk scarves along with other fashion and accessories including a Patricia Lester micropleated gown, handbags by Bally, Bottega Veneta and Ferragamo, a cow hide upholstered weekend bag, and much more.
