Dr. Philip Clements selected as Top Professor of the Year in Medicine for 2019 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)

Philip, J. Clements, MD, MPH, Emeritus Professor of Medicine for the David Geffen School of Medicine for the University of California, Los Angeles, was just recently selected as Top Professor of the Year in Medicine for 2019 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the industry.

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. With over 5 decades of professional experience as a seasoned and trusted Educator and Doctor, Dr. Clements has certainly proven himself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field.  He has demonstrated success not only as a Professor of Medicine for the David Geffen School of Medicine UCLA, but Dr. Clements has demonstrated success in all past positions he has ever held.  His impressive repertoire of prior roles have included Acting Chief, Division of Rheumatology for Wadsworth VA Medical Center, Attending Staff, Division of Rheumatology, UCLA-Olive View Medical Center, Assistant Professor of Medicine for the Division of Rheumatology Department of Medicine for the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA, Associate Professor of Medicine in Residence for the Division of Rheumatology Department of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA, Philip and Jane Williams Fellowship in Scleroderma, and Professor of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA.

Dr. Clements received his B.S. from Purdue University in 1961 and his MD from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1965.  He served as Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy from 1966-1969. Dr. Clements completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Fellowship in Rheumatology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also earned his MPH from UCLA School of Public Health in 1998. Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Clements has been active in his community and recognized worldwide for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the science industry. He has received many awards, accolades and has been featured in numerous publications multiple years in a row such as Top Doctors in America, The Best Doctors in America, Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World.  For 2019, Dr. Clements is being considered to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and for the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).  For 2018 selected as Top Professor of the Year in Medicine by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).  In 1998 and again in 2008 he and his co-investigators received a Research Grant from the National Institutes of Health.  In 2006 he received the Master of the American College of Rheumatology. In 2005 he was the recipient of the James R. Klinenberg Research Award. In 2004 named Doctor of the Year by the National Office, Scleroderma Foundation.  In 2002 received the Spirit of Hope Award, Los Angeles Chapter, Scleroderma Foundation. In 1994 he was co-founder of the Scleroderma Clinical Trials Consortium, a professional organization, whose missions are to improve the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials in scleroderma. He has served on the Medical Advisory Board for the Scleroderma Foundation; Assistant Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America; Served on the Medical and Scientific Committee for the Arthritis Foundation; Served on the Clinical Pharmacological Unit for the Royal Bath Hospital in Harrogate England, and served on the Committee on Curriculum for Fellowships, Committee for Rheumatology Rehabilitation, Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine for the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA.

Aside from his successful career as a Professor, Dr. Clements is also a sought after lecturer, published Author, Contributor to hundreds of book chapters, Articles and Professional Journals. From 2003 to 2014 he was co-editor of “Scleroderma Care and Research.” He is the Author of “Measuring Disease activity and severity in scleroderma,” Current Opinion in Rheumatology.  Author of “Systemic Sclerosis: Natural History and management strategies” in the Journal of Musculoskeletal Medicine, just to name a few.

Looking back, Dr. Clements attributes his success to his experience, education, mentors he has had along the way and staying passionate in all his endeavors.  Dr. Clements says he has been blessed, he loves doing what he is doing, and feels this is just the beginning.  When he is not working Dr. Clements enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. For the future, Dr. Clements hopes that his scientific research and contributions will continue to make a difference with people and in the world.
