Nikhil K. Bhayani, MD, FIDSA (Diplomate of Infectious Diseases) Assistant Professor, Department of Internal Medicine for Texas Christian University & University of North Texas Health Sciences, School of Medicine, was recently announced as the recipient of the International Healthcare Leader in Infectious Diseases Award for 2022 given by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his determination, integrity, and innovative infectious disease care.
Being selected for this distinction by the International Association of Top Professionals is a renowned honor, only 1 member is chosen from the Healthcare Industry. These special honorees are distinguished based on their longevity in their fields, the contributions they have made to society, the impact they have had on their industries and the admirable qualities that make Dr. Bhayani deserving of this title. This year Dr. Bhayani will be accepting his award on stage at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas while in attendance of IAOTP’s 2022 Annual Awards Gala.

With close to two decades of experience as an infectious disease physician, Dr. Bhayani has certainly proven himself as extraordinary and he is an expert in the field. Dr. Bhayani is a talented, results-driven leader who has demonstrated success throughout his entire medical career. He is the Owner of DFW Infectious Diseases, PLLC, his private practice located in Bedford, Texas.
Dr. Bhayani serves as a Physician Advisor in Infectious Diseases & Hospital Epidemiology for one of the largest non-profit health care systems in the United States, Texas Health Resources. He is also an Assistant Professor at TCU School of Medicine and the Medical Director for Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship at Texas Health Resources Harris Methodist Alliance Hospital.
Dr. Bhayani ’s areas of expertise as an infectious disease specialist include his roles in clinical care and medical administration. He is involved with a number of hospitals, clinical pharmacies and administrators to ensure that medical policies and safeguards are in place to prevent hospital-acquired infections.
Before Dr. Bhayani began his professional career path, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Utah in 1998. Dr. Bhayani continued his studies and graduated from Ross University School of Medicine in 2003, receiving his Medical Degree. In 2006, he completed his internal medicine residency training at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. In 2008, he completed his infectious disease fellowship at the University of Illinois Chicago, School of Medicine.
Dr. Bhayani is board certified in internal medicine and infectious disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also affiliated with the Texas Medical Association; the American Medical Association and he belongs to the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin. As one of the nation’s leading infectious disease physicians, Dr. Bhayani is a fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) and he is a member of the Medical Executive Committee at Texas Health Resources, Arlington Memorial Hospital.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Bhayani has received many awards and accolades and has been recognized in numerous publications and magazines worldwide for his outstanding roles and commitment to the medical field. He was featured in TIP (Top Industry Professional) Magazine and was broadcast on the famous Reuters building in Times Square, New York City. He was chosen as Top Physician of the Year & Top 50 Fearless Leaders in 2021 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). Since 2012, he was recognized as a Top Doctor in the Greater Fort Worth area. Dr. Bhayani was awarded as 2016 Physician of the Year by Texas Health Arlington Memorial, and he is a member with Leading Physicians of the World. Dr. Bhayani received a Recognition Award from the Illinois Math and Sciences Academy for mentoring students, and he also developed a rapid HIV testing protocol at the University of Illinois, Chicago Medical Center Emergency Room.
In addition to his successful career, Dr. Bhayani is a Board Member for the Dallas Chapter of Pratham. Dr. Bhayani is the secretary of the Texas Indian Physicians Society-Northeast Texas Chapter. He has conducted research into the visual systems of cats and monkeys. Furthermore, Dr. Bhayani has written a variety of articles he’s published in infectious disease journals, he is a sought-after speaker at conventions and conferences, and he is passionate about his work in antimicrobial stewardship for the medical institutions he serves.
Looking back, Dr. Bhayani attributes his success to his perseverance, his family and friends and his high integrity in all of his professional endeavors. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family/friends, attending NBA & NFL games, and traveling. For the future, Dr. Bhayani will continue making a positive difference in the lives of his patients and plans to dedicate more time to his research and training.
