Dr. Jerzy Sarosiek selected for the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Jerzy Sarosiek, who is Professor of Medicine at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center of El Paso, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, was just recently selected for the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. 


While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members are selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award.  These special honorees are distinguished based on their longevity in their fields, their contributions they have made to society and the impact they had on their industries.  Dr. Sarosiek was just recently honored at IAOTP’s annual awards gala at the Plaza Hotel where he received Top Professor of the Year in Medicine and he will be honored at IAOTP’s 2019 Annual Awards Gala being held at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas at the end of this year.   ww.iaotp.com/award-gala


Dr. Sarosiek is being recognized for this distinction for having over 5 decades of professional experience as a seasoned and trusted Doctor, Researcher, Teacher, and Professor of Medicine.  Dr. Sarosiek has certainly proven himself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field. As a dynamic results-driven leader he has demonstrated success not only as a Professor, but in all of his prior positions.  His impressive repertoire of prior roles has included Research Professor of Medicine and Director of the Gastroenterological Research Laboratory at Kansas University Medical Center, Educator at the University of Virginia Health Science Center, Research Fellow at the Westchester County Medical Center and the Metropolitan Hospital.  He has also been a visiting professor to Jagiellonian University School of Medicine in Poland.  Since 2009, he has served as the Professor of Medicine, Vice Chair of Research, Internal Medicine Research Committee Chairman and Molecular Medicine Research Laboratory Director with the Department of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine.    


As a dynamic innovator, Dr. Sarosiek is noted for US patents for human esophageal perfusion catheter (Patent # 5,314,409) and for esophageal protection by mastication (Patent # 5,730,958).  He has also extensively researched balancing aggressive factors and protective mechanisms in the health and diseases of the alimentary tract, including years of collaboration with 2005 Nobel Prize winner Dr. Barry Marshall for his work discovering Helicobacter pylori colonization within the human gastroduodenal mucosa. 


Originally from Pucilki, Poland, Dr. Sarosiek knew from a young age he wanted to be a Doctor.  He was intrigued and fascinated with the equilibrium between physique of the human body and the spiritual value of our mind.  He earned his MD from the Medical University of Bialystok in Poland in 1969 and continued at the institution to receive a PhD in 1976. In recognition of his contributions to the scientific community, especially his close collaboration with Dr. Barry Marshall, 2005 Nobel Prize in Medicine winner for his revolutionary concept that peptic ulcer in humans is a result of infection of the gastro-duodenal mucosa with bacteria Helicobacter pylori, in 2015 Dr. Sarosiek was selected and received an honorary doctorate, Doctor honoris causa, from the Medical University of Bialystok.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Sarosiek has been active in his community and recognized worldwide for his outstanding leadership and commitment in the field of Medical Research. He has received many awards, accolades and has been featured in numerous publications multiple years in a row such as Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in the World.  For 2019, Dr. Sarosiek will grace the front cover of TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and received the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).  For 2018, he was selected as Top Professor of the Year in Medicine by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) and for the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.  He has also received numerous awards from the American College of Gastroenterology, including the AstraZeneca Senior Fellow Award, Clinical Research Award and Astra Merck Award.  In 2003 he was named Man of the Year by the American Biographical Institute and was selected to receive the World Medal of Freedom in 2005.  He maintains his involvement with the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society, Southern Society for Clinical Investigation, The New York Academy of Sciences, Polish Gastroenterological Association and Polish Society of Surgery. He is a member of the scientific committee with the World Organization for Specialized Studies on Diseases of the Esophagus. Dr. Sarosiek is also a recognized fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and American College of Gastroenterology. 


Interestingly, Dr. Sarosiek has been selected as the recipient of the 2018 Tinsley Harrison Award for his senior authorship of article entitled, “Gastric pH and Therapeutic Responses to Esomeprazole in Patients With Functional Dyspepsia: Potential Clinical Implications”, which was published in the December 2016 issue of The American Journal of the Medical Sciences (AJMS). This award is given by the Editor for what is considered the best original manuscript published in AJMS during 2016; originally designed by Dr. Sarosiek as an innovator and very successful medical research team leader. 


Aside from his successful teaching and mentoring career as a Professor, Dr. Sarosiek is also a sought after lecturer, speaker, and prolific contributor to medical literature.  He was invited as a reviewer for publications like Gastroenterology, the American Journal of Gastroenterology, Digestive Diseases and Sciences, and the American Journal of the Medical Sciences.  


Looking back, Dr. Sarosiek attributes his success to his experience, education, the impactful mentors he has had along the way, and staying passionate in all his endeavors.  Dr. Sarosiek says he has been blessed, he loves doing what he is doing, and feels this is just the beginning.  When he is not working, Dr. Sarosiek enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.  For the future he hopes to continue to make a difference in people’s lives any way that he can.
