Dr. Alan C. Hartford, Associate Professor of Medicine with the Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine, former Section Chief and current Residency Program Director of Radiation Oncology with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, was just recently selected as Top Doctor of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding leadership and commitment to his industry and profession.

With over a decade of professional experience as an Associate Professor in Medicine and Radiation Oncology, Dr. Hartford has certainly proven himself as an extraordinary professional and expert in the field. Dr. Hartford is a dynamic, results-driven leader who has demonstrated success not only as an Associate Professor of Medicine but in every position he has held. Dr. Hartford’s impressive repertoire of roles have included working with the American Medical Association, serving on various committees with the Council on Ethical & Judicial Affairs, the Council on Long-Range Planning and Development, and the Council on Medical Service. He also served on the AMA’s Board of Trustees and consulted with the Dartmouth School of Medicine, the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, and the NRG Oncology Clinical Trials Group.
Dr. Hartford’s key areas of expertise include but are not limited to; Central Nervous System oncology, Genitourinary cancer, Bone and soft tissue sarcomas, head and neck cancer, intensity modulated radiation therapy, lung tumors, prostate brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Hartford has received many awards and accolades and has been recognized in numerous publications and magazines worldwide for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. For 2020, he is being considered to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals Magazine), and is also being considered for IAOTP’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He will be honored at IAOTP’s 2020 Annual Awards Gala, being held at the Plaza Hotel in NYC for his selection as Top Doctor of the Year. Dr. Hartford earned the Castle Connolly Medical’s title of one of America’s Top Doctors, and a fellowship with the American College of Radiology, as well as a number of research fellowships with medical institutions.
Aside from his successful career, Dr. Hartford is also a contributor to multiple articles and scientific reviews that have been featured in prestigious medical journals. He has written creative works such as “First Days of August,” which was written under the pen name Alan Froning. He is affiliated with the American Society for Radiation Oncology, The American College of Radiology, the American Medical Association, the Radiological Society of North America, and numerous state medial societies.
Dr. Hartford earned his Bachelor of Science Degree and His Master of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Stanford University. He earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Harvard Medical School and then joined Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital as an intern in 1992. Thereafter, Dr. Hartford completed his residency and fellowship in radiation oncology with the Massachusetts General Hospital and completed his Ph.D. in political economy and government from Harvard University.
