CaseNetwork Providing a Free Online DOMESTIC VIOLENCE “Virtual Patient” Case During COVID-19 Pandemic to Support Healthcare Professionals

06/02/2020 12:00 - United States - (PR Distribution™)

Newtown Square, PA - CaseNetwork announced today that the company is providing free access to an online "Domestic Violence virtual patient case" as a public service to help healthcare providers successfully diagnose and provide services to the increasing number of patients who may become victims of domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. Stay-at-home orders, loss of income, stress and general uncertainty can exacerbate the risk of violence at home.  More than 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) in their lifetime (National Domestic Violence Hotline).

This "virtual patient" case is a 28-year-old woman who presents to her physician with pelvic pain. The case is designed to enhance healthcare providers’ clinical judgment and communication skills and includes compelling video interactions with the patient, and follow-up case management.

CaseNetwork President and CEO, Jeffrey Levy, MD commented: "As an Ob/Gyn and women’s health advocate, I have been educating healthcare providers about domestic violence for three decades.  I am especially concerned that domestic violence is on the rise as result of the COVID-19 pandemic. I believe it is CaseNetwork's public service duty as an online medical education company to provide free online domestic violence education to ensure healthcare providers are equipped with the latest knowledge needed to care for patients experiencing IPV during this pandemic and beyond.”

This online educational module can be accessed from the CaseNetwork home page at  www.casenetwork.com and is part of a broader curriculum called CoreCases.
