Cajon Valley Union School District has been selected as one of six school districts in California by the statewide Community Engagement Initiative (CEI). This groundbreaking initiative to build resources for more meaningful community engagements in California’s public schools is an integral part of California’s new accountability system called System of Support.
The districts selected will make up the CEI’s Peer Leading and Learning Network which will analyze research and practices involving community engagement to help implement best practices in California schools, districts, and communities. Jan Gustafson-Corea, CEO of the California Association of Bilingual Education, said, “We are thrilled to learn with these districts what impactful community engagement looks like to bring about the ultimate goal of student success—particularly for communities of linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds.”
Cajon Valley Union School District is heavily involved in the El Cajon community, striving to make El Cajon the best place to live, work, and play. Of the many ways CVUSD reaches the community is the support the district gives to refugee students and their families, programs for parents to learn skills to better their own future, and programs like the World of Work which focuses heavily on connecting students to jobs and professionals in their community and surrounding communities.
“The Cajon Valley Union School District is excited to share our success in authentically engaging all families in cultivating ‘Happy kids, engaged in healthy relationships, on a path to gainful employment’ with this network of leaders to advance family engagement across our great state,” said Dr. David Miyashiro, CVUSD Superintendent.
The other districts joining Cajon Valley Union School District in CEI’s Peer Leading and Learning Network are East Side Union High School District, Ontario-Montclair School District, Oxnard School District, Anaheim Union High School District, and Azusa Unified School District.
