Bulldog Builders & Contractors is a veteran-owned and operated company, specializing in large commercial roofing projects, that is committed to helping the community. Bulldog Builders’ very own Matt Scardino is an active member of Texas EquuSearch, a volunteer-based search and rescue nonprofit organization, that has been helping people find lost loved ones for almost 20 years.
Matt has participated in 12 searches so far with Texas EquuSearch. He regularly donates his company’s drone and RV for these searches, and his own personal ATVs as well. When asked about his reasons, Matt Scardino explained, “it’s my way of giving back to my community. I’m happy to give my time and equipment to help people find their missing loved ones.” Matt was in the Marine Corp for five years, and his drive to help his community remains strong. His father Brad Scardino and cousin Lucas Hartman often volunteer for searches as well.
Unfortunately, Texas EquuSearch has reached a critical point in time that may force it to close its doors. 2018 was the busiest year in their history, but in part due to Hurricane Harvey, donations have hit an all time low. Texas EquuSearch is funded solely by donations, which go directly to upkeep on the search equipment, fuel for the search ATVs, and other various expenses.
Tim Miller, president of Texas EquuSearch, hates denying any requests for help and actually put $36,000 of his own money down in 2018 to help operations continue. “Tim is a good mentor,” Matt Scardino said, ”and his story inspires everyone to work hard and keep going.”
