Previews at Showplace Antiques + Design Center:

January 20th through February 2nd

On February 2nd Auctions at Showplace will present choice selections of fine art, furniture, silver, jewelry, and decorative arts all fresh to the market from New York City estates.

In time for Americana season is a striking work by important itinerant folk portraitist, Ammi Phillips (1788-1865). The oil on canvas depicts a dignified New England woman shown seated with her left hand resting on a book. Other traditional artwork includes four impressive oil on panel landscapes with birds, a trio of 18th century Spanish Colonial religious images, and a Charles Haigh-Wood portrait of a young lady. Those in search of modern art will find two acrylics by Raphael Colon Morales, a Cesar Paternosto oil, a Claire Khalil watercolor, and works on paper by Ernest Trova, Clayton Pond, and Matsumi Kanemitsu.

From a New York City collection comes three Shepard Fairey lithograph posters from the Barack Obama 2008 campaign including two bearing the iconic portrait of the 44th president with "Hope" and "Progress" and a third depicting a ballot box and the word "Vote." Also hitting the auction block will be vintage travel posters including three TWA and one from American Airlines.

Highlights in mid-century modern furnishings include a set of six Frank Mariani for Pace dining chairs, a Mies van der Rohe leather upholstered Brno chair, a group of fabulous Stilnovo and Arredoluce attributed lighting fixtures with white enamel shades, and two pairs of Robert Cordisco tall painted metal figural sculptures. For more traditional taste is an antique Dutch marquetry inlaid secretary, a Stickley Craftsman Mission style desk, an English George III manner center table, and a Horner attributed game table.

As always, Showplace is proud to offer excellent fine jewelry; this auction features ten pairs of solid gold cufflinks including some with animal and Pop Art motifs, a strong collection of Native American silver jewelry with turquoise and coral, rings by Effy and Movado, and luxury timepieces including two 18K Vacheron & Constantin wristwatches and a retro 14K Jules Jurgensen wristwatch. Complementing the jewelry is a large selection of designer fur and other coats including Christian Dior, Waltzer, Revillion, Tom Moriber, and others.

Other exciting offerings include Meissen porcelain figural groups, an American horse and jockey weathervane, a German silver and glass centerpiece, an Andreas Morelli cello, and much more! Join us for a fun afternoon of bidding at Showplace on February 2nd at 12:00pm.
