In 2016, Dr. Santoro joined the ranks of the distinguished PPP members who have been making progress with patient treatment and excellence in patient care. She has appeared on several televised educational programs regarding breast health issues and has written and co-authored numerous publications related to breast diseases and treatments. Moreover, she was featured in the nationally recognized health magazine Preferred Health Magazine (PHM) for her many accomplishments.
Dr. Santoro has worked with New Jersey state legislators to develop a Woman's Health Department and increased funds for Breast Cancer Research. She also received the First Annual Christine Todd Whitman's Award for Outstanding Woman in the field of Medicine and is consistently named one of the best doctors in the New York/ New Jersey Metropolitan Area.
Dr. Santoro is founder of the Breast Care and Treatment Center in Livingston, New Jersey. Dr. Santoro graduated from The College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, New Jersey in 1960 with an A.B. in Chemistry and Honors in Theology. In 1965, she graduated from the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania where she was awarded a Doctor of Medicine Degree, a Student Research Fellowship in Pathology, and recognition for excellence in Pathology.
While attending the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania from 1965 to 1966, she had a Straight Surgical Internship. Her General Surgical Residency was completed in 1970 at Saint Vincent's Hospital in New York City where she was the first woman to become Chief Surgical Resident. An American Cancer Society Clinical Fellowship was awarded to Dr. Santoro at Saint Vincent's Hospital. From 1970 to 1971, she received a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Cancer Training from the National Institute of Health at New York Medical College.
Dr. Santoro was the first Woman President of the New Jersey Division of the American Cancer Society; and a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, 1971. She maintains memberships in several professional societies and is very active. Dr. Santoro is a member of ASCO, American Society of Breast Surgeons, American Society of Breast Diseases, American Cancer Society, New York Metropolitan Breast Group, Oncology Society of New Jersey, Medical Society of New Jersey and Essex County Medical Society.
In 1976, Dr. Santoro limited her practice exclusively to breast surgical oncology and practiced at the Saint Barnabas Medical Center where she treated patients for various breast disorders. Procedures previously performed by Dr. Santoro included oncoplastic surgery such as nipple areola skin sparing mastectomy, partial mastectomy with a plastic surgeon (oncoplastic), magseed localization for lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy, axillary node dissection.
As a surgeon. Dr. Santoro obtained additional training and experience in the multidisciplinary approach to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of cancer patients. Her many years of experience have brought her patients expert advice, diagnosis and treatment options, critical to their health. She attributes her success to her upbringing and her determination to become a doctor at a young age.
Dr. Santoro is the recipient of numerous awards and recognition including the Continental Who’s Who 2018 Recognition of Excellence, was named Patient Preferred Oncologist 2017, 2018 by Patient Preferred Physicians and Practitioners and NJ Top Doctor in 2018. She was also Featured in Preferred Health Magazine 2017, and prominently featured as a Top Consultant on the Thomson Reuter's Building in 2018 and again in 2019!
