200 Black Women in Tech To Follow On Twitter 2021 Returns After Two Year Hiatus

2021-01-07 17:00:00 - United States, Maryland, Riverdale Park - (PR Distribution™)

Washington, CD – January 5, 2021 — The 200 Black Women in Tech to Follow on Twitter launches this week, announcing the names, bios and handles of 200 outstanding, engaged, bold Black Women who use their influence on the social media platform Twitter to share news, information, insights and a bit of their personal selves on all things tech.

The list returns this year after a two year hiatus with the generous sponsorship support of a dynamic trailblazing Black Woman herself, Nicole Commissiong, Senior Vice President, Operations and Co-Founder of Dynamic Service Solutions, an engineering and project and emergency management firm based in Oxon Hill, Maryland. At one time, it was the only black woman-owned Tier-1 Engineering Furnishing and Installation (EFI) vendor for Verizon in the Mid-Atlantic providing telecommunications and power infrastructure.

“Despite the fact that the first three versions of the list were well received by the general Tech community in the United States and abroad, and one year, was even re-shared by the Obama Administration's Office of African American Affairs, it never received much press and attention beyond the Twitter platform.” creator of the list Jay Jay Ghatt said. “Here I am announcing this list of amazing women and it’s not getting the elevation and support I think it it deserves, ironically substantiating the reason for the list in the first place.”

She added: “That’s why I was so happy that a Black woman stepped in to save the day and be the hero.”

Commissiong added: “I used to look forward to reading about the wonderful, informed, engaging Black women who made the list every year and was disappointed to see it go away," Commissiong said. "When asked to help usher in its return, I knew as a Black woman myself who moves and maneuvers in a male-dominated field that I had to step in and offer my assistance."

About Company

The 200 Black Women to Follow on Twitter list was created by Jeneba Jalloh Ghatt, a Washington mainstay in federal telecom law and political reporting, who responded to the absence of black women on annual lists of “Who To Follow”.

She also was unsettled over the fact that tech companies also reflected a virtual absence of black women and the fact that this demographic received less than 1% of venture capital funding. These unfortunate stats exist despite the fact that Black Women work in the tech field, launch their own Startups and graduate with computer science and related degrees each year.

The list was launched to combat the comments of those who claim to not know where to find Black Women in tech. The list is a resource that can be used to diversify and make more inclusive speaker and event panels, hires and more.

Nicole Commissiong, supporter and sponsor, is the Senior Vice President, Operations of Oxon Hill, Maryland based Dynamic Service Systems,  an engineering and project management and emergency management firm was at one time the only black woman-owned Tier-1 Engineering Furnishing and Installation (EFI) vendor for Verizon in the Mid-Atlantic providing telecommunications and power infrastructure.
