Dr. Vatsala Sastry, Physician at Suncoast Infectious Diseases, was just recently selected as Top Physician of the Year in Infectious Disease for 2019 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP), for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the healthcare industry.
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. With close to 30 years of professional experience as a Physician in Infectious Disease, Dr. Sastry has certainly proven herself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field. As a dynamic, results-driven leader, she has demonstrated success not only as a Physician, but Dr. Sastry is also a prime expert in the treatment of Lyme Disease and is an Educator who empowers her patients to choose healthier options in order to have a healthier life. Dr. Sastry gets to the root cause of what is causing the illness in her patients as she states she is not a “pill mill doctor”, she methodically diagnoses and steadfastly perseveres the underlying obstacles and complications that may exist. Dr. Sastry says that infectious diseases occurs more when our immune system does not function properly. In order for people to maintain healthy immune systems they must also be mentally positive, eat healthy, exercise daily, avoid smoking and limit alcohol consumption.
Dr. Sastry earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences’ Bangalore Medical College in Karnataka, India. She went on to receive her Doctor of Medicine in Infectious Diseases and Infection Control from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sastry completed her internship at Grant Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and completed her residencies at the Foster G. McGaw Hospital in Maywood, Illinois and at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Sastry remains active in her community, and has been recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. For 2019 she is being considered for a feature in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and for IAOTP’s Empowered Woman of the Year. Also for 2019 she was selected as Top Physician of the Year in Infectious Diseases by IAOTP where she will be honored at their Annual Awards Gala at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. She has been featured on CUTV News and recipient of Continental Who’s Who Top Doctor of the Year Award. Dr. Sastry is an esteemed member of ISDA, the United States Marines, Veterans of Armed Forces and is an affiliate of Bayfront Health Brooksville and Oak Hill Hospital.
Dr. Sastry attributes her success to her perseverance, her passion for helping her patients, mentors she has had along the way, and the support she receives from her family. When not working she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
